A new 911 model, the 911 Carrera T, has been introduced by Porsche. “Touring” versions, denoted by the letter T, come with features intended to improve comfort and speed when behind the wheel. The 2018 911 Carrera T comes standard with a rear seat deletion and a seven-speed manual gearbox, but buyers can add a rear seat at no extra cost. An eight-speed PDK is also available as a free add-on.
With its standard seven-speed manual gearbox and other weight-saving features, the Porsche 911 Carrera T comes in at 3,254 pounds, 100 less than the basic 911 Carrera (PDK only). The new 911 Carrera T was designed for serious drivers. Therefore it comes standard with a PASM Sport Suspension that lowers the car by 10 millimeters compared to a regular 911 Carrera and has less soundproofing.
Located in-between the base 911 Carrera and the top-tier 911 Carrera S comes the new 911 Carrera T. It uses the 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft torque-producing twin-turbo six-cylinder engine found in the 911 Carrera. Similarly, the 911 Carrera S’s standard mechanical limited slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) is used in the T model. The 911 Carrera S lacks the PASM Sport Suspension, and the 911 Carrera lacks the Sport Chrono Package, although both come standard on the 911 Carrera T. The 911 Carrera T has an optional rear-axle steering system, which isn’t included in the base 911, Carrera.
There is a maximum track speed of 181 mph regardless of the gearbox. Titanium Grey Carrera S wheels, 20 inches in diameter in front and 21 inches in the back, are another piece of T-exclusive hardware. Tire sizes 245/35 (front) and 305/30 (rear) are mounted on the rims (rear). All 911 Carrera T models have the GT Sport steering wheel, Sport Exhaust System, and four-way Sport Seats Plus as standard equipment. Thinner glass and a more compact battery join the elimination of rear seats and reduction of sound deadening in the 911 T.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T received homologation as a touring vehicle in 1968, where the “T” in the model’s name comes from. Until 1973, the original 911 T could be purchased. Porsche brought back this purist and lightweight 911 version for the 991 series in 2017. The idea has now been effectively applied to additional model lines, including the 718 Cayman T, 718 Boxster T, and 718 Macan T.
The inside of the 911 Carrera T has unique dark grey accents. Agate Grey is used for contrasting features like mirror covers and model identification on the doors and trunk. As a bonus, the Sport Exhaust System has sleek, black, high-gloss tailpipes.
