With the new BMW Z4, drivers can experience a more exhilarating driving experience than ever offered by the roadster.
The BMW Z4 2023 is the latest generation of the popular open-top two-seater, and it comes with a multitude of updates, updated design accents on the exterior, an increase in standard equipment, and the addition of several new options. The vehicle combines many outstanding features that make it stand out from the competition. In doing so, BMW offers the ideal ingredients to continue building the car’s success as both a symbol of pure driving pleasure and one of the global leaders in its market segment.
This BMW Z4 is a roadster that redefines the traditional roadster experience for today’s drivers with its powerful engines and rear-wheel drive, a vehicle concept that focuses on agility. The dynamic excellence, a classical fabric soft-top roof, and a progressive ambiance on the inside only add to the class.
With each step, the car evolves into a machine that has a unique exterior that exudes an enhanced sense of athleticism, with the features of the M Sport package – which are now also included as standard as part of the four-cylinder models – giving the impression of an immediate boost. Since standard specifications have been expanded and the structure of the offering has been streamlined, the Advantage, Sport Line, and M Sport equipment lines are no longer available since they have all been consolidated into one standard specification. It comes with a range of exterior paint finishes, M light-alloy wheels for 19-inch variants, and M lights Shadow Line to offer the customer many choices for an added personal touch.
The Z4 Roadster by BMW is a supreme example of driving dynamics, which the drivers will love and enjoy.
Several markets offer the Z4 in its lower-power sDrive 20i trim level, which comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that can produce 194 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission, but in the US, a slightly more powerful 255-hp sDrive 30i trim level comes with the same 2.0-liter four and has a torque output of 295lb-ft. There is also a second model in the range, the straight-six M40i engine with a maximum power of 382 hp, which churns out 369lb-ft of twist force. A torque-converter-type automatic transmission utilizing a ZF-sourced 8HP engine is mated to both engines.
There have been several significant changes, including the induction system, which can be found as part of the sDrive 30i, starting with the inclusion of the previously optional M Sport body trim, which has always been standard on the M40i and has now become standard on the sDrive 30i. The more chiseled and aggressive appearance undoubtedly appeals to a larger crowd, but we have never had any issues with the cleaner look of the now-deleted Sport Line look, which the brand identifies as “Classic BMW Design.” However, enthusiasts will still be able to distinguish between the two models – the M40i comes with mirror caps in the bronze Cerium Gray and has more significant, more angular exhaust tips.
Many new exterior colors have also been introduced for the new model year, including Thunder Night Metallic, Portimao Blue Metallic, and Skyscraper Gray Metallic for the first time. For its debut, the 2023 model year is the M Shadowline light, which is available as an option with the optional adaptive LED headlights, which come with modern LEDs as an upgrade.
There has also been a slight nose job done on the car. Compared with the previous variants, both models get a new front kidney grille with a horizontally oriented décor instead of vertically positioned dots, which is intended to give the impression of being larger at the front. Among the very modest number of changes included are three new metallic colors, a new optional 19-inch wheel design, and optional black trim for the headlights, a list that is somewhat modest but thankfully does not include the curved dashboard that seems to be trickling down from the BMW iX electric SUV to most of BMW’s other models in the future.
In the BMW Z4 M40i, acceleration from 0 to 62 mph is achieved in just 4.5 seconds; in the sDrive30i, the same is achieved in 5.4 seconds, and finally, in the sDrive20i, the 62 mph mark is hit in 6.8 seconds from rest.
A Driver-Centric Cockpit
The interior design of the BMW Z4 is centered on the driver. This layout includes the incorporation of integrated headrests into the sports seats, good forward visibility, and a limit on the number of decorative elements.
BMW Z4 sDrive20i is a luxury car with a powerful engine and a brilliant appearance. Its interior is in Vernasca leather with black, ivory white, cognac, and magma red colors as standard. Both the BMW Z4 M40i and BMW Z4 sDrive30i feature leather/Alcantara trim as standard, with contrast stitching and blue piping providing a unique touch to the interior. An array of additional interior features are available with the BMW Z4 sDrive30i, including an M leather steering wheel, M Sport seats, M pedals, and M driver’s footrest. Undoubtedly, this will add yet another level of sports car driving enjoyment to the vehicle.
Apart from this, the BMW Z4 sDrive30i now includes a modern instrument panel with sensors that are part of Sensatec. This is reminiscent of the cockpit of a sports car. A variety of features are included along with all model variants, such as an automatic dimming mirror, a wind deflector, extended storage, a through-loading system, park distance control equipped with front and rear sensors, and dual-zone automatic climate control. There are also standard features on the BMW Z4 M40i and BMW Z4 sDrive30i models. Ambient lighting, as well as the M door sill finishes, are both optional.
Intelligent connectivity services provide intuitive operation and smart connectivity in the BMW Live Cockpit Professional. A central console controls the fully digital instrument cluster on the passenger side. Furthermore, its diagonal display measures 10.25 inches. The car comes with all standard features, including navigation, multimedia, Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an alarm.
In addition to its eight-speed automatic, the roadster has been rumored to feature a six-speed manual for the American market. The Bavarian brand says it’s happy with the 55,000 Z4s that it’s delivered since its market launch in 2020, despite reports that the automaker may kill it after 2025. It will cost $52,800 for the base model and $65,400 for the M40i, plus an additional $995 for shipping.
