The La Voiture has different Bugatti genes which differ from the legendary Veyron as well as the Chiron.
With a combination of exclusivity, performance, and luxury, the new “La Voiture Noire” is every bit the equal of Jean Bugatti’s masterpiece in terms of quality, performance, and luxury. As a result, it is the perfect expression of the three cornerstones of Bugatti: ‘dynamic, luxurious, and elegant’. A work of such elegance and finesse as La Voiture Noire can be described as an opus.
A sense of refinement and elegance is reflected on every surface and continues to the smallest details. As if it were a visor on a helmet, the windscreen seamlessly blends into the windows like the visor on a car. Newly designed bumpers are seamlessly integrated into the body of the vehicle. Subtly guiding the eye over the surface, which seems to be one continuous piece, are clear lines that lead the eye over the surface. As a result of its extended front end and the distinctive Bugatti signature line, this vehicle gives a sense of elongation to the passenger compartment.
The coupe’s elegant waistline emphasizes the smooth contours of its body. In order to demonstrate the immense power of this vehicle, there are six tailpipes on the rear. This subtle hint at the strength of the car’s heart, the iconic 16-cylinder engine, is subtly incorporated into the car’s overall look.
It took two years for the company to develop this car, a modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti’s lost Type 57 SC Atlantic car. As part of the end-to-end development of this Chiron-based creation, approximately 65,000 engineering hours have been devoted to the design and development of the completely bespoke bodywork as well as the extended wheelbase of the car. The six exhaust tips are still very much present, dominating the car’s rear end and giving it a powerful presence.
Regarding the wheelbase, the length of the vehicle was increased by 17.7 inches compared to Chiron, while the distance between the axles had grown by 9.8 inches. This one-of-a-kind LVN features a custom body with visible carbon fiber surfaces and a clearcoat known as black carbon glossy, which is a special clear coat for carbon fiber. As Bugatti puts it, the special finish on the car “generates virtually no reflections, but plenty of tension and drama.”
There is also a great deal of detail in the multi-million-dollar headlights, with more than 25 pieces individually milled in each cluster. The company admits that La Voiture Noire was a labor of love, even though it was a one-off project. A 3D-printed grille is on display at the front, and an ultra-wide strip of LED lights is situated at the back, which boasts a single piece surround with no joints, which is the first time the same has been done on a Bugatti.
As a rolling display shell, the all-black Bugatti was initially unveiled as an electrically powered rolling display at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2019. A quad-turbo 8.0-liter and 16-cylinder engine have been installed in this car’s engine bay, which can produce 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque.
To highlight the level of quality of Bugatti’s manufacturing processes, each component has been carefully crafted by hand. There is a deep black gloss on the carbon fiber body, interrupted only by the ultrafine fiber structure of the material. The perfect harmony between the materials and the finish of the surface leaves the surface glowing vividly with gleaming gleam.
The car’s wheels are an exemplification of its powerful appearance. When the alloy wheels were being built, a special program was used to calculate the material’s optimal thickness during the construction process.
Given the mandatory WLTP fuel consumption figures, it should be no surprise that it falls into the “G” efficiency category since it emits 813.7 grams of CO2 per mile. This equates to 10.69 miles per gallon.
Even though there is not much information about the interior, grain leather upholstery finished in Havana Brown is available. The center console and door cards are decorated with polished aluminum inlays, while the owner can select from various driving modes by using a rosewood switch on the center console.
According to Bugatti, the La Voiture Noire is more than just a Chiron in new clothes as, along with the stretched wheelbase, additional modifications have been made to the car. While the cooling and wheels of the LVN are different, the car’s character leans more towards a grand tourer rather than a sports car. The vehicle was perfected in the wind tunnel and on test benches, but it was also tested out in the open on test tracks and proving grounds at various speeds, just like a “normal” production Chiron would be.
When it was introduced in 2019, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire was the most expensive supercar at the time, with a price tag of around $18 million. However, in 2021, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail became the most expensive new car.
